Beef in Red Wine Sauce Recipe
An easy recipe to enhance your strips of beef, simmered in a delicious pot of red wine sauce. Versatile, can be served with rice, mash or vegetables.
Preparation time: 15 minutes || Cooking time: 15 minutes
You'll need:
- Sunflower oil: 3 tablespoons
- Fillet or sirloin: 400gm
- Banana shallots: 2
- Garlic: 1 clove
- Button mushrooms: 150gm
- Plain flour: 1 tablespoon
- Red wine: 200ml
- Beef stock: 150ml
- Caster sugar: a pinch
- Thyme leaves: 1 tablespoon
- Salt and pepper to taste
First, cut the beef into thick strips, slice the shallots, crush the garlic, slice the mushrooms and chop the thyme leaves.
Heat two tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over high heat. Season the beef strips and fry for a minute, until browned all over, then set aside.
Heat the remaining oil and saute the shallots, garlic and mushrooms for about 3 minutes, then sprinkle the flour over, stir for a minute and add the red wine and stock. Simmer for 4-5 minutes until it is reduced by half and thickened.
Add the sugar, thyme and the beef to the pan and simmer for a further 2 minutes.
